Fear of Abortion

The blog we have chosen is called the Anti-Abortion Gang and can be found at http://theantiabortiongang.blogspot.com/.  The blog’s goal is to show people what is really going on inside the minds of pro-aborts. The blogger expresses his or her opinion and beliefs about others’ tweets, blogs and other articles referring to abortion. The blogger prides herself/himself on having a blog where others can refute and argue, which many pro-abortion blogs don’t allow. This blog uses fear in the headlines of the blogs as well as their content. This blogger wants to scare you into believing abortion is horrible and the wrong thing to do.

The interface of the blog suggests the presence of life. On the front page, the background is pink, white and yellow. It gives the appearance of an animal cell that has been placed on a microscopic slide and magnified. The anti-abortion blog is implicitly showing its values as a prolife group by showing cells, which are thought to be the basis of all life. This blog wants its readers to make a connection between cell life and human life, which would then mean that abortion is destroying life.

  2. #6 Every blog has a particular meaning or purpose for its creation. If one can fully understand the view point from the blog’s creator, then the meaning of the whole website can be easily understood. This is exactly why I chose this particular post. The first post on this newly created site (last post if you search backwards from the homepage) was written directly from the creator of this website plainly titled ”Why this blog was created.” This post informs as well as persuades the reader in many unique manners about this controversial subject on life. It begins by simply stating that most of America is unaware of the pressing issues of abortion. The author then follows this claim with four powerful, disturbing bullet points showing just how serious and ubiquitous abortion really is in our world. These unknown facts include the following: 1.3 million babies are killed each year in the U.S., 53 million babies have been aborted since the court hearing of Roe vs. Wade, and that U.S. tax dollars are being used to support abortion. Particularly, I appreciate how the author replies to the uncertainty after every bullet point, “But they will,” clearly showing his or her mission. Obviously, he or she is against abortion, wants to take a stand, tries to persuade the public to be against, and strives to hopefully put abortion to an end. The author purposefully ends with the sentence “millions of unborn babies are depending on us,” convincing the reader to take a stand today.

  3. #1 The blog's interface sports a watercolor of red and orange patterns that can possibly resemble body tissue, cell groupings, blood or some sort of biological image. Upon further inspection, the patterns in the blog's interface are scattered wildly and appear disorganized. This connection between the biological image and disorganization can be implying the complete mess that abortion, the topic which the blog is fighting against, has made of the sole purpose of being "alive." To survive. As organisms, humans all have a natural instinct to stay living. That could be the root reason why giving up one's life for another's is seen as so admirable. The author could by pointing out that the "choice" of cutting off one's developing embryo or baby is, in a sense, counter to being a living organism or perhaps human.

The article from this blog that caught my eye was “American Taxpayers DO Pay for abortions.” For the year of 2010, I recently paid just under $2,000 income tax personally. When I noticed this title, I was immediately drawn in. Saying that, most of the blogs’ readers would not like to see their income being used for abortions. Fifteen comments were linked to this blog; three people/ two sides are arguing what they believe. The rhetoric strategies that are used by all commenters are stating their idea, arguing that the others’ ideas are incorrect, and attempting to support their own ideas with facts. The commenters are very harsh towards one another (the second comment even includes two curse words) which can be inferred that one is Pro-life and the other is Pro-choice. While reading these comments, I feel that both sides are immature about choosing their harsh words toward each other, yet each side includes legitimate arguments to illustrate their point; “Katsworld” includes a story that her niece was raped by her own father. In that case it makes the reader question if aborting the baby is a reasonable action or not. The comments boil down to if the government eliminates funding Planned Parenthood and abortions, could potential mothers (who can’t afford a baby in the first place) afford to receive a non-funded abortion? If so, is it morally right to perform this action--Pro-life or Pro-choice?

  5. When I first looked at the blog, the interface reminded me of blood. The background of the blog has swirls of washed out red and pink with a little bit of yellow. If the creator of the blog intended for the background to be blood, then I feel that they are trying to provoke fear from the viewers. Blood can siginify death and so the creator of the blog are using that to signify what abortion is. So with this, the creator is implicitly using a red watercolor background to show death/abortion. Since blood is not looked at as something positive, I feel that it puts a bad taste in the viewers mouth which in turn leads them to be anti-abortion.

  6. #1 As i first clicked on the link to go to the blog assigned. I first noticed the background and the different shapes intelled in a different array of pink colors. As i looked closer, some of the shapes represented to me as sperm trying to empregnat a women. Looking further, i notice the "so" called sperm as i see it, trying to find the ovaries but could be blocked by birth control pills or other preventative birth control objects. Possibly the author of this blog could be stating that prevetative care is killing a life yet born or conceived yet.

  7. 1.) 1.) “The Anti Abortion Gang” makes use of the attractive Google Blogger interface with alternative font and color selections. At a first glance, the blog appears to be exciting and alive with energy, making use of a colorful background. The site has the feel of an art blog with the chosen background and bright color scheme. After looking further, one observes that the purpose of the blog focuses on advocating anti-abortion. The reader quickly puts concepts together, realizing the purpose of a dripping red/pink background is to provide grotesque imagery of an abortion. The front page’s vibrancy certainly demands attention, although at the expense of the reader’s vision—and these bright colors do seem to detract from the site’s professionalism. Other than the background and color, the site is a fairly standard blog. The front page is littered with many responses to tweets—many of which rip apart individuals based on having differing morality on aspects of the subject matter. This post content is not technically the “interface of the blog,” but the finger-pointing is a surefire way to troll the pro-life commenter. To me, this seems like a desperate attempt at gaining blog hits. In the end, the interface is attractive and attention-grabbing. The lack of professionalism should not be a large concern as individuals looking for pro opinions on the matter will not likely be looking a personal blog for such information.

When you first open the blog you notice the color scheme in the background behind the post. The colors of pink, red, white, and some orange smudges make the page more colorful or lively which is the first indication of the blogs stance on the issues of abortion. The blog and group name is then tattooed across the top of the webpage “The Anti Abortion gang” clearly identifying that this is a pro life blog. The blog uses screen shorts of twitter posts in there articles of very extreme and sometimes violent comments towards pro choice people. The blog also has video feeds and statements about the topic from government officials. The blog is clearly make a strong radical stance on the issue of abortion and have no issue destroying any person or company that appears to disagree with them.

  9. 1. The interface of this blog has an interesting background- it had a red theme including swirling blotches of color. It almost seems like paper stained with blood. With the variation of the shades of red it also appears that it could be blood that may have had time to sit on the page. It could symbolize that women choose to have abortions to this day, which is what the blog is working against. It is also fascinating to see how bold they creators made the comments stick out. Comments that the bloggers are referencing are enlarged and have thick, black boxes around them. Also in their statements they cross out what they do not believe in. It is very flashy and tries to draw the reader in to the website.

Upon reviewing the posts posted in the blog, I see a lot of responses and interactions on the post about "American Taxpayers DO Pay for Abortions". Upon reviewing all the comments, what I can see is that there is a disagreement between the author and two commenter. One of the commenter is on the author side while the other one is disagree with the author. The author believes that one way to stop women kill their babies is through defunding the Planned Parenthood clinics. The author sees Planned Parenthood is about killing innocent lives where the money that PP received is used to support abortion. But the commenter who is not on the author side believes that defunding the Planned Parenthood clinics will make any access for health care’s become tougher. She believes that PP is life saver where it provides services and healthcare that man and women need and helps people with low-income. Based on these two contradicting ideas, I conclude that both them really value in saving one life though they views this matter in different ways and perspective.

  11. 7. This blog accomplishes its goal of discouraging abortion and sharing its blatantly obvious pro-life stance on the subject of abortion. It comes across as a place for pro-lifers and pro-choicers alike to share their opinions about the subject on a neutral forum, while in fact this is not the case. I “investigated” further to see if this was the case, but you need approval from the blog owner before comments are posted. Because of this, I think the blog loses some credibility because it can shift the amount of comments that are posted to make its view look better on the whole. That said, I think because of this people who believe in abortion will probably disregard this site for the fact that it does not accept comments for them to refute their beliefs. On the other side of this, people who are pro-life will believe this site because it is in support of their beliefs. For people on the fence on the matter of abortion, I think the blog does a very good job of persuading people to think poorly of abortion. The word choice in some of the articles is very effective in promoting anti-abortion. One of the article’s titles is “Pro-choicer Says OK to Mothers Killing Their Unborn Babies” which is very powerful in making people feel like pregnant women are already mothers and to abort these “babies” is therefore murder. The blog even calls them babies while they are still in the womb which can drive the emotions of people to feel like abortion is in fact murder, even if it is not so legally. The fear in this article is very convincing, even if it is not as neutral of a blog as it would like you to believe.

  12. 1. The layout of the blog is very peculiar. The background consists of light red and orange, the exact color of blood that has been exposed to the air for a time period. The title font is red which furthermore emphasizes the importance of each topic. The background symbolizes the countless abortions that have going on, the dark red symbolizing those still ongoing, and the yellow-orange-red colors symbolizing those abortions in the past. What's also interesting is that the background is quite repulsive which also supports the theme of the blog - "antiabortion", by creating such a repulsive color scheme it gives the reader the impression of how awful abortion is.

The background to the blog can be interpreted as supporting the pro life side of abortion. The background colors are a mix of reds, pinks, and yellows. All of these colors connect to the aspect of life. They provide an attachment to the unborn children and their life. The color scheme provides strong support for the article. The article criticizes the pro choice side of the abortion debate. The background colors symbolize the life that is destroyed through abortions. The red color can be interpreted as blood; the result of the slaughtering done through abortions. These lively colors help the antiabortion article to symbolize the life they are fighting to protect.

  14. I am not sure what number to put this one under but looking at the blog a lot of the posts seem to be responses to twitter or facebook or other such social network site posts by others on abortion, specifically targeted at forcing the blog authors opinions onto others. When this is added to the fact that it is a site with a obvious prolife bent which bemoans the fact that pro-choice sites don't let them have a voice it becomes hypocritical. As such I would have to say that this site achieves nothing as all responses are either preaching to the choir or are shut down so fast and so roughly that one would think that what ever was just said was a suggestion for mass murder.
I am sorry for the lateness but my internet messed up and then i was sick.

I think that this blog like Mike said above seems to be un-credible. yes thats how most blogs are but without much credibility and only opinions, we would get no where in debates. Especially on this blog because it seems to be a one sided argument in which anybody that thinks differently than the bloggers on the site are wrong. Plus I feel the fear the bloggers try to portray is ridiculous. the go overboard in trying to make their point and in the end ruin it because of lack of credibility.
